day 4

Posted by slykwyk on February 11, 2010

I couldn’t think of anything cool for a title today so it shall be called ‘Day 4’.  So here are a few thoughts from the week so far…

Our ‘hood

We moved here not too sure of what our neighborhood would be like.  Our last visit to the house we now live in was in August and we didn’t see anyone that day, so we took a chance renting this place.  We are pretty sure we made a good decision.  Our ‘hood is full of young families with kids at Savana’s school.  Plus, we have met all the parents this week.  No, they are not all Southerners.  This area is very diverse: a family from Michigan, Massachusetts, Germany, China, and maybe a North Carolinian or two.  The type of place we were looking for.

We continue to be amazed at how many people are excited about this church being planted in Chapel Hill!  There are other churches here.  There are even a couple of newer church plants.  However there are no churches that have the same background (Restoration Movement) as we do (if you’re a New Lifer reading this, whether you know it or not, the Restoration Movement is New Life’s background).  What this means is that when we talk to churches or organizations about planting this church, they get excited and want to know how they can help us out.  That is awesome!

Launch Team

I have done about ZERO work on finding a launch team.  This is one of the things you have to have when starting a church.  This group gives you a defined time of service (3-6 months typically) and helps with set up, tear down, helping with community projects, helping in kid’s classes, etc at launch.  Just through conversations on the phone, we already have a potential team of 20 people who want to help us launch.  That is HUGE!  Looking forward to seeing how God builds this team.

Seriously, I miss the snow.

And the family is doing GREAT!  Everyone loves it here.  Keep us in your prayers and we will keep you updated.  Hope to have a better web site up next week to keep you informed…

Day 4 almost complete…

I wish I could come do slides for your new church! Glad to hear everyone is doing well. You will get a terrific launch team, filled with folks starving for a relationship with Jesus and ready to serve. I’m praying for your team. Enjoy the journey.

All the best to you and your family as you reach out to bring new members into the family of Christ. Glad to hear you are settling in well down there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
