Haiti: in the rubble

Posted by slykwyk on January 14, 2010

Just got off a phone call for my brother-n-law who is on the Fairfax USAR team (Urban Search and Rescue).  It was very cool to hear about their team and how from the time they landed, they began to go to work to help people trapped under the rubble (even before getting their equipment out).  They have been very busy (they have been working on 1 rescue for 12 hours straight up to 7 pm tonight). Wow that is dedication and focus!

The good news is the people of Haiti are very appreciative of the work.  The team itself – when not at work – is encamped in a very safe location (really).  And they are saving lives!  Most of what the news is carrying about these Urban Search and Rescue teams is the crew from Fairfax County.

The bad news is that they are saying what you see on tv doesn’t do it justice.  It is very bad.

Pray for those guys and ladies as they work to save lives of people caught in the rubble.  I am sure they are and will be the guardian angels for many people there over the upcoming hours and days…
